There is currently one full-time vacancy – 40 hours per week.  Both internal and external applicants will be considered.  Applicants must be available to work all shifts – day, swing, and graveyard – 7 days a week – including holidays.  To be considered, applicants must check days, swing and night boxes (all three) on the online application under availability.

The Position: The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) is seeking a dependable, skilled, top-performing and team oriented individual to serve as a HVAC Technician for the Facilities and Maintenance Department.  The successful candidate for this position will perform skilled journey-level mechanical maintenance and repair work of HVAC equipment.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Installing, repairing and altering air conditioners, refrigeration units, computer control energy systems, boilers, circulation pumps, low pressure chillers, absorption units, cooling towers and other commercial/industrial HVAC equipment and systems.
  • Inspecting, diagnosing and troubleshooting HVAC equipment and systems.
  • Estimating supplies, materials and costs of repair projects.
  • Maintaining manual and computerized records.
  • Inspecting buildings and equipment to locate needed repairs and maintenance.
  • Operating Computerized Building Management Systems by setting time schedules, heat/cool settings and pump operation.
  • Monitoring and testing chemical conditions in open and closed loops and cooling towers; correcting improper levels by adjusting controllers or adding treatment chemicals.
  • Operating a variety of hand and power tools in the performance of assigned duties including the use of refrigerant recovery equipment, vacuum pump, voltmeter, ohm meter, manifold gauge, gas welding and soldering equipment.
  • Participating in snow removal by keeping the landside roads, parking areas, ramps and walkways clear through the use of snowplows, sweepers, blowers and hand shovels.
  • Assisting fellow technicians and maintenance workers in a broad scope of Airport repairs.  

This position is FLSA non-exempt, which means it is eligible for overtime. 

Job Requirements

Qualifications: 

  • Three (3) years journey-level HVAC experience in an industrial/commercial environment.  This must include experience working with air conditioning, heating, pumps, VFDs, DDCs, chillers, boilers, motors and related industrial plant subsystems maintenance.  Residential HVAC experience will not be considered as qualifying experience.
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Universal CFC certification at the time of application
  • A valid driver’s license is required at the time of application 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR THIS POSITION WILL ALSO HAVE:

  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment and tools used in building construction and maintenance services.
  • Ability to perform a full range of skilled plant operation, air conditioning, heating and related maintenance, troubleshooting and repair duties under minimal supervision.
  • Experience in general building maintenance and other trades such as plumbing, welding and electrical.
  • Experience using a Computerized Building Management System such as JCI Metasys or Delta systems.
  • Ability to maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of their duties.
  • Ability to deliver excellent customer service while maintaining a positive attitude.
